Candidates must:

  • Successfully complete pre-entry Assessment (including interview)
  • Hold a current valid Australian Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL)
  • Hold a current CASA Class 1 Medical and ASIC
  • Provide CASA CPL examination results

Units Of Competency

Recognition of Prior Learning

Flight Options Pilot Academy in conjuction with Aviation Australia offer an opportunity for recognition of prior learning (RPL) to be assessed. RPL may include holders of a CASA Recreational Pilots Licence, CASA Private Pilots Licence and/or a foreign pilots licence or those that have previous studies, qualifications and experience.

Training Hours and Location

Training is completed onsite at Flight Options Pilot Academy– Sunshine Coast Airport:

General training hours* are between 8.00am to 4.15pm, however these times may vary based on available flying hours and briefing hours.

*flight lesson/briefings hours and locations may vary (may be conducted at various aerodromes that may require travel – such as Gympie)

Study Modes

The course duration is approximately 12 weeks (with a minimum 25 hour per week face to face study commitment).

There are theory/self-study training components contained in this course. Students require access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. Students must be dedicated and committed to achieving the qualification by completing self-study for a minimum of 5 hours per week (in addition to face to face training). If a student fails to meet each study period requirements, they may be unable to progress to the next study period.

All students must successfully meet the course pre-requisites (listed above) prior to being offered a position and submitting an application for enrolment.

NOTE: Enrolments close approximately 2 weeks before the course commencement date. It is recommended that you start the enquiry process a minimum of 8 weeks prior to your desired course date to allow for time to complete the entry requirements.


In partnership with Aviation Australia (RTO 30770), you will be working with the Flight Options Pilot Academy team of experienced instructors – you will gain your Instrument Rating with instructors who have extensive flying experience and aviation industry knowledge to provide the most relevant and up-to-date instruction.
